Atamian Family Supports Ocean Matters Educational Program

Ocean Matters - Atamian Family

Atamian Volkswagen and Honda Atamian Supports

Ocean Matters

In an effort to raise awareness of trouble facing our oceans, Mr. Terry Atamian has made various donations to Ocean Matters – a summer marine biology program headquartered in Uxbridge, MA. This interactive program gives students a hands-on and “heads-under” approach to marine biology and prepares them with real world experience.

“I have lived near the ocean my whole life,” said Mr. Terry Atamian. “I’m also an avid fisherman and look for ways to support both oceanic research and my local community. Ocean Matters combines two of my passions.”

In support of the program, Mr. Terry Atamian has made a monetary donation towards helping Ocean Matters send young participants to two different dive site in Grand Cayman. The dive sites will allow the participants to gather important information used by the local Department of the Environment.

In addition to a monetary contribution, Mr. Atamian has generously donated an up close and personal tour at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA to be used in an Ocean Matters silent auction at their annual fundraiser. The package features various choices of events and private tours for the winner to participate in. The Marine Biological Laboratory is an international center for research, education, and training in biology, biomedicine, and ecology.

“Ocean Matters is grateful for the generous support of Atamian VW and Honda for our scholarship drive,” said Executive Director of Ocean Matters, Laura Parker Roerden. “Such support tells young people that we find their work to protect the coral reef worthy of our attention.”

About Ocean Matters:

Ocean Matters offers Summer Marine Biology programs for young people and educators.

Ocean Matters mission is to support young people and educators in developing the skills, knowledge, and convictions to be stewards for the marine ecosystem.

The marine biologists/educators at Ocean Matters believe that all students can meet high academic standards — as long as they have support and a desire to do so. The program is academically rigorous in order to give students a realistic view of college-level study in marine biology so that they might “try on for size” a career in science. Unlike in college, however, you will be supported thoroughly to succeed in your studies — through one-on-one study sessions with faculty, intensive writing seminars, and other special tutoring sessions.

Ocean Matters classes are hands-on and interactive, a ‘heads-under’ approach (as one student described it) where your studies center around daily dives on the reef. You will not be required to regurgitate information, but rather synthesize what you’re learning and form your own questions from observations you’ve made in the field, and then design methods to answer those questions.

Atamian Family Supports Falmouth Dog Park Project

Reed Atamian Falmouth Dog Park

Terry Atamian & The Atamian Family contribute monetary donation in support of dog park.

In an effort to propel the Falmouth Dog Park into construction, Mr. Terry Atamian of Atamian Volkswagen and Honda Atamian has made a significant monetary donation in support of the project.

“I believe in giving back to the communities which I have been a part of for a number of years,” said Mr. Terry Atamian.  “Various projects in the area I hold close to my heart, and I am grateful to be part of giving the citizens around Falmouth a fun place to take their dogs.”

In recognition of their donation, a park bench was constructed in the park which stated “In Loving Memory, Fritz of Wolfsburg – The Atamian Family.”

Mr. Atamian and his family have been very generous in their donation to the dog park. They will provide a second place for people (and dogs) to sit while enjoying the park,” said Barbara Schneider, president of Falmouth Dog Parks, Inc “We can’t think of a better way to memorialize a family member than by allowing so many to enjoy a beautiful, and fun spot in a relaxing way.”

The dog park was under construction in early January, and private donations such as the ones made by the Atamian family, have played a large role in its construction and anticipated completion.  The parks mission, according to its website, is “to create a welcoming, safe and environmentally sensitive community dog park for use by residents, visitors and their pets.”

In a previous media article, it was reported that Schneider received an e-mail from Mr. Terry Atamian on New Year’s day, and was quoted as saying ““We are so grateful for their generosity. It was a wonderful way to start the New Year.”
