Ocean Matters

In an effort to raise awareness of trouble facing our oceans, Mr. Terry Atamian has made various donations to Ocean Matters – a summer marine biology program headquartered in Uxbridge, MA. This interactive program gives students a hands-on and “heads-under” approach to marine biology and prepares them with real world experience.

“I have lived near the ocean my whole life,” said Mr. Terry Atamian. “I’m also an avid fisherman and look for ways to support both oceanic research and my local community. Ocean Matters combines two of my passions.”

In support of the program, Mr. Terry Atamian has made a monetary donation towards helping Ocean Matters send young participants to two different dive site in Grand Cayman. The dive sites will allow the participants to gather important information used by the local Department of the Environment.

In addition to a monetary contribution, Mr. Atamian has generously donated an up close and personal tour at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA to be used in an Ocean Matters silent auction at their annual fundraiser. The package features various choices of events and private tours for the winner to participate in. The Marine Biological Laboratory is an international center for research, education, and training in biology, biomedicine, and ecology.

“Ocean Matters is grateful for the generous support of Atamian VW and Honda for our scholarship drive,” said Executive Director of Ocean Matters, Laura Parker Roerden. “Such support tells young people that we find their work to protect the coral reef worthy of our attention.”

About Ocean Matters:

Ocean Matters offers Summer Marine Biology programs for young people and educators.

Ocean Matters mission is to support young people and educators in developing the skills, knowledge, and convictions to be stewards for the marine ecosystem.

The marine biologists/educators at Ocean Matters believe that all students can meet high academic standards — as long as they have support and a desire to do so. The program is academically rigorous in order to give students a realistic view of college-level study in marine biology so that they might “try on for size” a career in science. Unlike in college, however, you will be supported thoroughly to succeed in your studies — through one-on-one study sessions with faculty, intensive writing seminars, and other special tutoring sessions.

Ocean Matters classes are hands-on and interactive, a ‘heads-under’ approach (as one student described it) where your studies center around daily dives on the reef. You will not be required to regurgitate information, but rather synthesize what you’re learning and form your own questions from observations you’ve made in the field, and then design methods to answer those questions.

Reed Atamian Falmouth Dog Park

Terry Atamian & The Atamian Family contribute monetary donation in support of dog park.

In an effort to propel the Falmouth Dog Park into construction, Mr. Terry Atamian of Atamian Volkswagen and Honda Atamian has made a significant monetary donation in support of the project.

“I believe in giving back to the communities which I have been a part of for a number of years,” said Mr. Terry Atamian.  “Various projects in the area I hold close to my heart, and I am grateful to be part of giving the citizens around Falmouth a fun place to take their dogs.”

In recognition of their donation, a park bench was constructed in the park which stated “In Loving Memory, Fritz of Wolfsburg – The Atamian Family.”

Mr. Atamian and his family have been very generous in their donation to the dog park. They will provide a second place for people (and dogs) to sit while enjoying the park,” said Barbara Schneider, president of Falmouth Dog Parks, Inc “We can’t think of a better way to memorialize a family member than by allowing so many to enjoy a beautiful, and fun spot in a relaxing way.”

The dog park was under construction in early January, and private donations such as the ones made by the Atamian family, have played a large role in its construction and anticipated completion.  The parks mission, according to its website, is “to create a welcoming, safe and environmentally sensitive community dog park for use by residents, visitors and their pets.”

In a previous media article, it was reported that Schneider received an e-mail from Mr. Terry Atamian on New Year’s day, and was quoted as saying ““We are so grateful for their generosity. It was a wonderful way to start the New Year.”

Atamian Family: Supports Penikese Island School

Terry Atamian , President of Atamian Volkswagen & Honda of Tewksbury, MA contributes monetary donation in support of struggling school.

In an attempt to support the Penikese Island School during its financial struggles, Terry Atamian, owner of Atamian Volkswagen and Honda in Tewksbury contributed a $500 donation to the school, in hopes he can help contribute to their financial stabilization process.

Terry Atamian  has also long been active in numerous community and charitable activities through the years, including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Genesis Fund, Cam Neely Foundation and Tewksbury, Falmouth and Lowell youth organizations.

Mr. Atamian is a supporter of the school because of the positive values they instill in young men who are not as fortunate as others, and hopes through his donation others will follow and contribute as well, so the school can stabilize itself and continue to provide help to those young men who need it.

What is Penikese?

The Penikese Island School is a small therapeutic boarding school for teenage boys located on tiny Penikese Island 12 miles SW of Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

George Cadwalader founded the school in 1973, envisioning Penikese as an alternative to juvenile jails, then called training schools, and a program based on choice and natural consequences rather than coercion in a family-sized, self-sufficient, and interdependent community. For this reason we sometimes refer to Penikese as a small school and home away from home.

Penikese’s mission is to prepare struggling boys ages 15-18 to be productive and positive members of their families and communities.

Philosophically, Penikese strives to promote long-term internal change rather than impose superficial and often temporary conformity. Penikese is a powerful advocate for those who seek change in all aspects of their lives, and dedicates its resources to helping troubled adolescents “get better at what they are not good at.”

Atamian takes steps to expand business, community presence

TEWKSBURY — The Atamian Volkswagen and Honda car dealership has broken ground on a half-million dollar expansion of its car lots, taking the first step toward an eventual $10 million expansion of the business in the coming years, said Atamian dealership president Terry Atamian.

The family-owned business has spent more than $1 million on two plots of land along Interstate 495 North, located north of its current dealership, Atamian said.

The additional land clears the way for expanded development of the current business at 150 Main St. The business now owns a total of six acres east alongside Route 38′s I-495 North exit on which to renovate, build and expand.
“We were stymied by being in the same facility for 40 years,” but the purchase of new land and town zoning permits allow for future growth, Atamian said.

The dealership also has just begun the design process for the eventual revamping of its two buildings.

It plans to redesign the first floor of its original building, turning it into a dedicated Volkswagen dealership, and double the space in its second building, which currently serves as a storage building for cars, from 20,000 to 40,000 square feet to accommodate the Honda portion of its business.

Since the building expansion plans will depend on a number of approvals from respective Volkswagen and Honda headquarters, as well as the town’s zoning board, it’s not yet known what the time-line for the buildings’ renovations will be, Atamian said.

But by the end of the expansion process, the dealership plans to increase its staff by 50 percent, adding another 35 workers, he said. In the past 20 years, it has doubled its number of employees to 70, and even in the recession, the business did not have any layoffs, but has been adding employees, Atamian said.

Atamian said that the dealership’s expansion is a sign of the family-owned business’s success even in a trying economic environment, as well as its commitment to the surrounding community.

The family, which has a history of selling cars dating back to 1919, has owned a Volkswagen dealership in Tewksbury since 1969, and a Honda dealership since 1976.

“It has been a lesson passed onto through four generations of Atamians that if you treat your customers and employees fairly you will have success in business,” Atamian said.

For that reason, the business is not only expanding its business presence but deciding to adopt a more visible leadership role as a business committed to community and charitable works, Atamian said.

For the past several years, and even in the economic downturn, the business has donated nearly $100,000 annually to scores of local charities and community groups, including the Genesis Fund, Juvenile Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Cam Neely Foundation, and various Tewksbury and Lowell youth organizations.

It’s become especially important for businesses to step up and talk about the role they can play in helping the larger community, Atamian said.

“We need to get the word out because these organizations are getting crunched in this current economy, and it might encourage other businesses to step up,” Atamian said.

Community Involvement

As a family owned and operated company, we at Atamian Volkswagen and Honda understand that there is more to being part of a community than just running a business within it. We strive to be active with and supportive to the members of our community. Commitment is a key part to our core values, and through this commitment, it allows us to remain a successful operation.

Terry Atamian of Tewksbury Teams Up With Big Papi To Help Children In Need

World Child Project

The World Child Project

TEWKSBURY, MASSACHUSETTS (Online PR News) – Terry Atamian, President of Atamian Volkswagen & Honda of Tewksbury, MA recently donated over $10,000 to The David Ortiz Children’s Fund, which provides crucial pediatric care to children in New England and The Dominican Republic and The World Child Project, the leading marketplace for non-profit fundraising. Mr. Atamian, along with Emily Manion, Director of Community Relations, traveled to The Dominican Republic where they participated in Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz’s Celebrity Golf Classic to raise funds for children.

At the event, Mr. Terry Atamian played in a foursome including Former MLB and Red Sox Pitcher Luis Tiant, with great results. Ms. Manion was paired up with Red Sox Hall of Famer Jim Rice, as well as Toronto Blue Jays slugger, Jose Bautista. Her team finished third place overall at the event.

David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic

“I was thrilled to be part of this event. The David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic held in Cap Cana is a wonderful opportunity to connect a New England Community with The Dominican Republic as they share a common bond: the need for assistance in providing care for children in a hospital setting.” says Manion.

“David Ortiz is a wonderful leader in these efforts and his passion for the children is quite apparent. He brought together many teammates, as well as other professional athletes and personalities that feel the same drive to support kids for a worthy cause that really makes a difference.”

Atamian has been committed to numerous charitable causes, mostly within his own community, but felt this donation had more far-reaching effects. “I’m honored to make a contribution to organizations like The David Ortiz Children’s Fund and Charity Folks,” says Atamian. “Helping others has always been a priority to my family and me. This seemed like an excellent way to reach out beyond the confines of my own backyard.”
